Extradition to Slovakia (Slovak Republic) may take place on the basis of a European arrest warrant. Slovakia has been a member of the European Union since 2004. In 2007, border controls with EU countries were lifted in accordance with the Schengen Agreement, and Slovakia joined the euro zone in 2009. The country is a democratically constituted parliamentary republic.

German nationals can also be extradited to Slovakia for prosecution on the basis of a European arrest warrant.
The European arrest warrant is transmitted directly between the competent judicial authorities of both countries. Slovakia is a member of Interpol.
